Why did you opt for the dual vocational training at Hamburg Süd?
Information technology is really diverse. While searching for an apprenticeship position, I specifically focused on large companies with their own IT department so that I could get to know as much as possible about the field during my apprenticeship. That’s how I quickly came across Hamburg Süd. After going to the assessment center and being interviewed, I immediately had a good feeling. I’d found what’s right for me.
Has the program lived up to your expectations? What do you especially like about it?
During the apprenticeship, you rotate through various IT departments in order to get an overview of the many different task fields. I was very positively surprised at how warmly I was welcomed at the various teams and how I was immediately considered a valued colleague. As an apprentice, you have, to an extent, the chance to work on projects independently and thus become directly involved in ongoing business operations. For me, this training concept is ideal as preparation for your future career.
Can you give us a few examples of what you’ve learned over the last year?
On a basic level, I’ve learned how to work independently. In terms of content, I’ve had to learn the basics about programming. What’s more, we develop shipping-related IT solutions at Hamburg Süd, which is very exciting.
Do you have any tips for students who are interested in, but might still be uncertain about this kind of training?
If you are interested in IT and want to learn more about the business aspects of a company at the same time, the apprenticeship to become a digitalization management clerk offers an ideal combination. The job is multifaceted and you work in a field that will only become more and more important with time. If you also enjoy working in a team, have a knack for computers and aren’t afraid of meetings held in English, Hamburg Süd is the perfect place for you.
