Charleston Port Backlog
(Florham Park, NJ)…Further to our advisory dated December 16, 2021, the following is an update.
On December 28, 2021, CSX opened a small amount of RV’s from Nashville to Charleston.
Due to the holidays and lack of available drivers, the daily number of drays during the weekend of December 24th, from Charleston CSX to Charleston Terminal was minimal. However, on December 27th, there was a noticeable increase.
• Friday through Sunday (December 24-26), a total of 56 moved to the terminal.
• Monday (December 27), a toal of 244 moved to the terminal.
As of December 27, there were 2,400 containers at Charleston CSX waiting for dray and 700 containers either enroute to Charleston CSX or being held at origin terminals awaiting onrail.
There is not an established timeline on when origin ramps will open up RV’s however same is being re-evaluated every day which is entirely dependent on the congestion decreasing at Charleston CSX.
Reference Savannah and Charleston Reservations
In the past, Charleston and Savannah allocations have been interchangeable resulting in surges to one or the other port.
• As of the week of December 20, customers will not be able to use RV's interchangeably between the two ports.
• Allocations for each port (Savannah & Charleston) will be established
We will provide an update ASAP. Please contact your Hamburg Süd representative with any questions that you may have.
