Last Friday (23/6), at the Detroit Brasil shipyard, in Itajaí - Santa Catarina, our company named its first harbor tugboat, the Aliança Minuano. Considered state-of-the art and suitable for ever bigger vessels, the 32-meter boat has a 70t bollard pull capacity.
By the end of this year, Detroit Brasil will deliver two more tugs of the same series: Aliança Aracati (September) and Aliança Pampeiro (December). Another four boats of an even more modern series will then become available during 2019. All the tugs will be operated directly by Aliança.
According to José Roberto Salgado, director of Aliança Navegação e Logística, there is market demand for major harbor tugboats and there are exciting opportunities for expansion in Brazil. “As it is an area in which we don’t operate directly, Aliança is working on operating agreements with companies that are already established in the market to sell the services of these boats,” he explains.
The three Aliança tugs, which will be available by the end of the year, will cost R$ 90 million.
The Aliança Minuano was named by employee Dalva Negretti, coordinator at Aliança Navegação e Logística. Having worked for the company for 35 years, and as she is retiring in October, she was nominated by the board in recognition of her dedication.
The other tugboats will also be named by long-serving employees whose stories serve as inspiration for the whole company.
